One Childhood, One Chance

2.4.2026 Weekly News!

Finally, we have reached the end of Term 4. In yet another busy week, we have loved reading to the end of our class book; hunting for eggs; running around the field with an egg and spoon and also finishing our cam toys. We have been busy right to the very end and it’s exactly how we like it! Thank you to all the parents who attended Parent Teacher Consultations this week; it’s been wonderful to share your child’s successes with you.

English

This week, we learned about the myth Hercules and his 12 labours. Using our knowledge of myths, we planned and wrote our own ending. We also finished reading to the end of our class text: The Adventures of Odysseus and completed the associated AR quiz.

Next term, we will be reading a book called Street Child by Berlie Doherty It is a moving historical novel about Jim Jarvis, a young boy struggling to survive in Victorian London after his mother dies. Based on the true story of the first orphan rescued by Dr. Barnardo, Jim faces the harsh realities of the workhouse, cruel employers and homelessness, before finding hope in a safe school.

Maths

This week, we learned how to use scaling to increase or decrease amounts of something or also use it for converting units of measure by finding out how many times bigger or smaller something is. We used this to compare amounts of something.

Next term, we will be exploring the link between division and multiplication before moving on to percentages and the relationship between percentages, fractions and decimals.

Spelling

In your child’s reading record, there is a sticker with the words they are learning. We call these ‘red words’ and they are tricky or impossible to sound out using phonics. Some children have been given some challenging words to learn. Thank you in advance for your support with this. There will be a spelling test at the end of the term on these words.

Love to Learn

Over the Easter holidays, we would like you to begin to prepare themselves for an activity next term. This is a whole-wide activity. Please see the poster below:
