Weekly News –20.04.26

Term 5 – We hope you had a wonderful half term. As we begin Term 5 it has been really nice to get outside and do some outdoor learning.
Maths
This week in maths, we have been learning how to write numbers up to 1000 in words and how to change numbers written in words back into numerals. It has been really interesting to practise switching between the two and making sure we understand how numbers are structured. We have also been learning how to round numbers to the nearest 10. We now feel more confident looking at a number and deciding whether it should be rounded up or down.
Next week, we are learning how to round numbers to the nearest 100. We will also be using this knowledge to help us estimate answers to addition questions.
English
This week we have been writing a non-chronological report all about spiders. We have been using different sentence types to make our writing more interesting and have been thinking carefully about how to organise our ideas clearly. We have worked hard to include facts and present them in a structured way, just like real report writers!
Next week, we are really excited to begin our new text for the term, Charlotte’s Web. We will be stepping into the role of Fern and writing a diary entry, thinking about her thoughts and feelings and writing in the first person. We can’t wait to bring the story to life through our writing
Thematic
This week in Thematic, we have been learning about geography. We have explored the Equator, the Tropics, and the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. We have been finding out where these are on a map and thinking about how they divide our world into different regions. We have also been discussing how these areas affect climate and what different parts of the world are like.
Next week, we will be learning about when the Mayan people lived and comparing this to other civilisations we have already heard about. By using a timeline, we will contrast Mayan society with previously learned peoples and begin to understand how different civilisations existed at different times in history.
Home Learning
As part of our PSHE learning this term every child will be given an opportunity to show their year group what it means to be them. On Friday 1st May, Year 3 will be having a talent show. We would like as many children as possible to participate and show off their talent. This week we would like you to prepare and share a short presentation, speech or performance about what makes you special and why it is good to be you.
Dates to Remember

We hope that you have a wonderful half term with your families, we can’t wait to hear what you have been doing!
