Weekly News! 1.5.26

We have had a wonderful week in Reception! We have invited some new visitors to the classroom…our very own caterpillars! We are going to observe the changes that happen over the next few weeks.
Talent Show!
Well done to all of the children who have taken part in the Talent Show this week! Thanks to all adults at home who helped the children to practice – it was a pleasure to see the children performing!

RWI
We are currently focusing on recapping Set 1 and Set 2 sounds. This is a crucial stage in your child’s phonics journey, as it provides them with the foundation needed for successful reading and writing. We encourage all children to engage actively during our sessions, as exploring these sounds in various contexts helps to reinforce their understanding.
To further support your child’s learning at home, we suggest setting aside some time each day to practice reading words with these sounds. Encouraging your child to identify sounds within words will not only boost their confidence but also enhance their reading skills.
Maths
This week, we have been learning to double. We have done this in many different ways e.g. using Numicon tiles, dots on ladybirds and butterflies and creating domino doubles! We have had great fun doing this!
Next week, we will be learning about shape. We will be learning to use the correct vocabulary to describe 2D shapes (sides and corners), we will be sorting shapes based on their properties and will learn that you can make other shapes by putting 2 shapes together e.g. you can make a square by putting two triangles together.
Later in the week, we will be looking at the faces on 3D shapes and what these are e.g. on a cube there are 6 square faces.
Thematic
This week, we have been exploring the lifecycle of frogs. We read The Tadpole’s promise to help understand the different stages a frog goes through. We created some artwork to show the different stages of the frog lifecycle and acted it out.
Next week, we will be exploring the lifecycle of a butterfly.
