One Childhood, One Chance

1.5.26 Weekly News!

What another great week at Chilton!

Maths

This week in Maths, we have been exploring Roman numerals and learning the important rules that help us read and write them correctly. The children enjoyed spotting patterns and understanding how different symbols combine to represent numbers.

We also moved on to linking fractions and decimals, focusing on finding equivalent values up to two decimal places. This has helped to strengthen the children’s understanding of number relationships and place value.

English

In English, we have continued reading our class text Tales of Wisdom and Wonder. This week, the children worked on writing their own playscript based on the story Fish in the Forest.

We discussed the key message of the tale—encouraging us not to underestimate others and to learn from our mistakes. The children practised using stage directions and explored how playscripts are presented, including the use of bold, italics, and underlining to guide the reader and performers.

Thematic

In our thematic learning, we have been focusing on Geography. We explored why people historically settled near rivers, looking closely at the River Thames as an example.

The children also took part in a class debate, discussing whether living near a river is positive or negative. They shared thoughtful ideas about the benefits, such as access to water and transport, as well as potential risks like flooding.

Spellings

Spellings to learn this week are:

incorrect, inhuman, incapable, independent, invisible, incomplete, incomplete

RED WORDS:  regular, reign, remember

Love to Learn

Can you create your own play script using the features we have used over the past few weeks? It can be on a play that you have seen or you can create your own one. Try and include at least two scenes. We are looking forward to hearing some!
