One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News –04.05.26

Year 3 have worked incredibly hard and have shown great enthusiasm in all of their learning this week. They have particularly enjoyed their PE this week learning how to play Goalball, Boccia and some of the skills of American Football. Keep up the great work Team Year Three!

Maths

This week in Maths, we have recapped our knowledge of subtracting using a number line. We have also used rounding to help us estimate answers and applied the inverse operation to check our calculations. Next week, we will be developing our understanding of measuring and scaling problems. We will also solve a range of multiplication problems, including missing number problems.

English

This week in English, we have been writing letters as different characters. We have been thinking carefully about how to write in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd person, as well as using persuasive language to make our writing more convincing. Next week, we will be writing a setting description, focusing on using effective verbs and adverbs to make our writing more detailed and interesting. We will also spend time editing and improving our work.

Thematic

This week in Thematic, we have been learning about Mayan beliefs and the Mayan number system. We found out that 5 and 20 were very important numbers in Mayan mathematics. Next week, we will be looking at the Mayan writing system, as well as exploring a range of different sources to find out more about the Conquistadores

Home Learning

For home learning this week we would like you to create a poster to explain rounding, you might want to create a step-by-step guide, a poster for your own rounding rhyme or something else to help you remember how to round numbers up or down.
