One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 22.5.26

What a wonderful term we have had. Take a look at what we have been up to this week…

Viking Games

Wow the children had so much fun when Ramsgate Art Primary school came to visit us for our Viking Games. Take a look at some activities we did!

Maths

This week in maths, we have been learning to solve missing number problems. We did this by using part, part wholes to help us solve the missing addition or subtraction question. To find an addition problem we added the part and another part to make the whole. P + P = W. To find the subtraction problem we had to take away a part from the whole to find the other part, W – P = P.

Take a look at some of our questions we had to solve. Our teachers were very impressed with our fantastic learning!

Next term in maths we will be looking at Multiplication . We will look at placing objects into arrays and understand repeated addition.

Fact of the week

Our fact of the week this week is:

5 +1 =6

1+ 5 = 6

6 – 1 = 5

6 – 5 = 1

Read, Write Inc.

This week in Read, Write Inc. we have been reviewing sounds we know and learning new sounds. We have continued to use our sounds to read and write words, phrases and sentences. In particular, we have been looking for special friends in our words, saying the sounds and reading the word. Any practise at home reading a word by finding the special friends, saying the sounds and reading the word would be greatly appreciated!

We have also been working hard on our handwriting and writing sentences with capital letters and full stops.

Reading

Children will bring home two reading books each week: a RWI home book and a Learning Zone book (with a coloured sticker). RWI books will be changed by an adult every Monday, so please ensure all reading wallets are placed in the trays. Children should read their RWI book three times during the week to build fluency. Learning Zone books can be changed independently by the children on Tuesday–Friday mornings.

Minute Reads are also included; once completed, please ask the class teacher for a new one. Please read with your child regularly at home and sign their reading record each time. Both RWI books and Learning Zone books can be recorded in the reading record. Certificates are awarded weekly, with additional certificates for every 20 reads.

If you have any questions, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

RE

This week in RE we have been looking at Hindu celebrations! The children got to see a video of a Hindu wedding and see how they celebrate. We looked at how Hindu brides have henna tattoos on their hands and feet when they get married. We created our own henna tattoos. Next, we looked at the Hindu festival Raksha Bandhan this is where brothers and sisters promise to take care of each other. We then had a think who we looked out for and who looks out for us too, we then drew a picture of them and wrote about how they take care of us.

Next term we will have a PSHE week and we will be looking at healthy relationships.

Love to Learn

Inspired by our English story time book, The Clown by Quentin Blake, we would like the children to create their own wordless story based on their half-term experiences.

This can be presented through drawings or photographs, with no written words included. The children will then be given the opportunity to share and retell their story verbally using their pictures to guide them.

We are looking forward to seeing their creativity and the different adventures they have had over the half term brought to life through their illustrations.

Show and Tell

A reminder that children should not be bringing any toys into school as these can get easily broken or lost. If children would like to do show and tell, please email a picture of the show and tell to class teacher(s) and we can use this when the children share with the class. Please could all parents ensure that children are not bringing toys etc in from home.

Additional Information

PE is now on a Monday afternoon please can children wear a plain white t-shirt, or our new Chilton PE t-shirts, black or navy bottoms and a plain black or blue sweatshirt.

Read at 3! This is where we would love to invite you into our classrooms and read with your child for the full 15 minutes. This will happen every Friday there after this term.

Spare clothes for year 1

We kindly ask that all Year 1 children have a spare set of clothes in school, including underwear and socks, in case of accidents or spills during the day. Having these items available helps us ensure your child stays comfortable and can quickly return to their learning.

If you have any spare underwear or clothing at home that your child has outgrown and you would be happy to donate, we would greatly appreciate it. These donations are very helpful for supporting all children when needed.

Thank you for your continued support.
