Weekly News –18.05.26

We have reached the end of Term 5 and we couldn’t be prouder of Year 3, they have worked so hard this term, shown real maturity and have been incredibly curious learners. This term we have learnt about the Mayans, adding and subtracting, created non-chronological reports and even participated in the Viking Games.
Just a little reminder, please ensure that children have a water bottle and a labelled hat in school everyday after half term.
Maths
This week in Maths, we have been learning how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. We have used jottings to help us work through word problems carefully and show our thinking clearly. The children have worked hard to understand what the numerator and denominator represent and how this helps us when solving fraction problems.
Next term, we will begin by solving missing number problems. We will also be using the bar model to support our understanding of subtraction, including subtracting by ‘taking away’ one set and comparing two different sets.
English
This week in English, we have been focusing on using speech in our writing. We thought carefully about what we already know from Charlotte’s Web, including the characters, setting and events, and used this knowledge to help us create an extra chapter for the book. The children worked hard to include speech between characters, thinking about how dialogue can move a story forward and make writing more interesting for the reader.
Next term, we will be reading a new text linked to our Thematic Learning. We will be exploring The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry, which will help us begin our learning about rainforests. We are looking forward to discovering more about the animals, plants and people connected to this important environment.
Thematic
This week, we have been learning about Christians and the Bible. We explored how Christians use the Bible in their homes and discussed why it is an important part of their faith and daily lives.
Next term, we will begin our new topic all about rainforests. We will be learning about where rainforests are found, what makes them such unique environments, and why they are important to our world.
We will begin Term 6 with our PSHE learning, focusing on the theme ‘Your Words Can Hurt’. We will be thinking carefully about how the words we use can make other people feel and discussing what we can do to make things better if our words have upset someone. This will help us continue to build kindness, respect and understanding within our classroom.
