Weekly News –08.06.26

We have absolutely loved our learning this week, we started the week with our Science Day, we completed 3 different experiments and used lots of new scientific equipment. We have been learning how to use subordinating conjunctions, multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 and we have even learnt about biomes. Next week, Year 3 will have their Computing day next week, we will be learning how to use the programming software Scratch.
Maths
This week in Maths, we have been exploring tenths and learning that they are created when a whole is divided into ten equal parts. We have enjoyed counting forwards and backwards in tenths and using our place value knowledge to help us understand decimal numbers. We have also been investigating what happens to digits when we multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1,000. Through practical activities and problem-solving, we have discovered how digits move within the place value chart and how this changes the value of a number.
Next week, we will be moving on to converting between different units of measure. We will be learning how to convert measurements such as length, mass and capacity, helping us to make links between maths and everyday life.
English
This week in English, we have been focusing on using subordinating conjunctions to make our writing more detailed and interesting. We have explored how words such as because, when, if, although and while can be used to join ideas and add extra information to our sentences.
Next week, we will be recapping our knowledge of using speech in our writing, including how to punctuate direct speech correctly. We will then focus on weaving speech and description together to help bring our characters and stories to life.
Thematic
This week in Thematic, we have been learning about biomes and exploring the different environments found around the world. We created models of a variety of biomes and included information about the plants, animals, and climate found in each one. It was a great opportunity to combine our research skills with our creativity and helped us develop a deeper understanding of how living things adapt to their environments.
Next week, we will be learning about the impact of deforestation and the effects it can have on habitats and ecosystems around the world. We will also be exploring the differences between plants, creating detailed observational drawings, and conducting a scientific investigation to answer the question: "What do plants need to grow?" Through this experiment, we will make predictions, observe changes over time, and develop our scientific enquiry skills.
