It's hard to believe that this will be the children's last week in Year 4! We have had a fantastic year with Team Topaz and Team Aqua! Here is what we have been up to in our last full week together...
Maths
In maths, we revised using short division to divide, also known as the bus stop method. Many of the children had found this tricky to get the hang of earlier in the year, but they did brilliantly this time round and many of them have grasped this method now. We also recapped using translation to move a 2D shape on a grid using movements up, down, left or right.
English
In English, we have finished our unit on persuasive writing. The children learnt to use compound sentences, short, snappy sentences and rhetorical questions to help aid their persuasion. They then finished the unit with their showpiece where they wrote a letter to their parent(s) to persuade them to let them have a pet that they wanted. The letters were very persuasive and they did a great job using all of the skills they had learnt in the unit.
RE
In RE this week the children have been learning about identity and belonging. We found out that a person's religion can be a big part of their identity and that they often show this by the items they choose to wear. For example, a Jewish man or boy may wear a Kippah, a Muslim lady may wear a headscarf or a Christian person may wear a cross necklace. We also found out that our environment that we live in helps build our sense of belonging, and the children thought about where they live and what makes them feel safe and happy in their environment. We then learnt about refugees and about how they have to leave the place they feel that they belong and travel to a completely new, unknown place and how that can effect their sense of belonging.
