WOW!  What an amazing week the children have had at Carroty Wood!  It was an amazing opportunity for the children to experience many new activities.  New friendships were made and children pushed themselves out of their comfort zones multiple times; we are all incredibly proud of them all.

25th September – Chilton Fundraisers Family Quiz (more details to follow from the Chilton Fundraisers)  

8th October - Harvest Festival for Year 4 at 9am and year 5 and 6 at 2.45pm  

15th October – Kent Test Results out to parents  

23rd October – Halloween Disco – All children come to school in fancy dress. Year 1, 2 and 3 Disco from 2pm-3pm and year 4, 5 and 6 disco from 3.15-4.15  

23rd October – Final day of  term  

Home Learning

We would like the children to prepare and deliver a 1-min presentation stating what Chilton Year 6 role they would like to do this year.  Roles such as: House Captains, Sports Captains, Sport Crew Members, Thrive Ambassadors, Reading Ambassadors, Maths Ambassadors, Reading Buddies, Librarians and any other role that they think Chilton would benefit from. If children prefer not to have a main role in Year 6, we would like them to give a very short speech (no more than 1 min) about them as a person and what they like to do outside or inside of school. 

English 

Next week, the children will spend their reading lessons focusing on reading skills such as: clarifying vocabulary, questioning, predicting, summarising and comprehending what they have read in the text Floodland.  In writing, the children will focus on prepositions and write a descriptive setting of Eels Island and outside and inside a cathedral.

Maths 

Next week, the children will start with ordering and comparing numbers and then move on to rounding in their maths lessons then moving on to rounding decimals. They will start with fluency questions and then move on to word problems.   

Thematic 

Next week, Year 6 will learn about Charles Darwin and what he is famous for.  They will also spend time plotting his HMS Beagle voyage.  Here is an interesting video link for you to learn more about him too - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVK72JxXPTk
