Carroty Wood was a tasty adventure for intrepid youngsters from Chilton Primary in Ramsgate.

The Year 6 group enjoyed a memorable four-day, three-night, stay at the woodland residential centre just outside Tonbridge where they tackled new challenges, developed lifelong skills and created memories that will stay with them for years.

The action-packed programme included a wide range of adventurous activities designed to develop teamwork, communication and perseverance.

Children challenged themselves through tackling high ropes, low ropes, raft-building, pedal go-karts, mountain biking, archery, bushcraft and many more exciting activities. Many of the group stepped well outside their comfort zones, discovering new strengths and learning valuable life skills along the way.

Evenings were just as memorable, with swimming sessions and traditional campfires providing opportunities for pupils to relax, reflect on their achievements and strengthen friendships.

The young adventurers were also encouraged to become more independent by taking responsibility for everyday tasks such as making their own beds, unpacking and repacking their belongings, washing up, and preparing their own breakfasts and lunches. These experiences helped them build confidence, resilience and self-reliance in a supportive environment.

The residential forms an important part of the Chilton enrichment experience, reflecting the school's belief that an excellent education is about developing the whole child as well as achieving academic success.

It also played an important role in helping pupils build positive relationships and stronger bonds with one another, friendships that will continue to support them throughout the remainder of their final year at Chilton.

Deputy Head Teacher Hannah Cheshire is “extremely proud” of group. She said:” They demonstrated courage, determination, kindness and resilience, embracing every opportunity that came their way.

“They supported one another, challenged themselves and showed remarkable independence. Experiences like this are a vital part of our Chilton enrichment programme, helping our children grow into confident, capable young people who are ready for the next stage of their education."

 

Head Teacher Alex McAuley added: “The school would like to thank the staff who gave up their time to make the residential possible and to congratulate every pupil for the enthusiasm, maturity and positive attitude they showed throughout the trip. They were first class ambassadors for our school community.”

* Carroty Wood residential activity centre is situated just outside Tonbridge in the heart of the Garden of England. It is enclosed in 58 acres of mature woodland with plenty of natural habitat and wildlife for groups and families to explore. Carroty Wood is equipped with a range of group accommodation, more than 20 instructed activities and a heated indoor swimming pool.
