Home Learning

We would like the children to create a piece of art in the same style as William Morris.  The children have learnt about him and understand how to create his repeated patterns.  The children can present their learning in their own way. Learn more about William Morris here - https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zpqxs82/articles/zc9pvj6#zq2gkhv

English

Writing in Year 6 moved away from fictional pieces focusing on non-fiction this week.  For the last two weeks, Year 6 will be researching and writing a non-chronological report about climate change, which is linked to our class text: Floodland.  The children have used their Guided Reading sessions to read and understand what climate change is. They spent time answering retrieval comprehension questions linked to this subject.  They also spent time understanding new vocabulary that is linked to this subject.  The children used their spelling lessons this week to look at words that make the ee sound made with ei and ie except after c,  They also focused their punctuation and grammar lessons on parenthesis as they will be using this in their writing this week.  To find out more about parenthesis, click here to watch a video - https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zhpt7yc#zpqv6rd

Maths

This week, Year 6 spent time adding and subtracting. They spent time looking at strategies to add and subtract by either partitioning, using friendly numbers, or using the column method.  The children finished the week looking at problem-solving scenarios that used addition and/or subtraction.

Thematics

Our science continued this week with the children learning about microorganisms, what they are, how to classify them, and where we find them.

Art

This week, the children continued to explore the designer William Morris and this week started to create their own versions using his style.
