Weekly News! 23.10.26

We have come to the end of the first term in Year 5 and what an amazing term it has been! From the very first day to the very last day, the children have amazed us with their enthusiasm and engagement in lessons. We hope that you all have a lovely week next week.
English
This week in English, we have finished our extended narrative which involved writing an alternative ending to the Jamie Drake Equation text. We broke this into different paragraphs to help us build up to the problem and then resolving the problem. Within this writing, we included speech and relative clauses. The final pieces are wonderful!
Here is a photo of Team Topaz writing some sentences with relative clauses:
We have finished reading Jamie Drake Equation this week. Next term, our text will be The Ice Trap.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been using different strategies to multiply and divide e.g. to work out 24x4 we can halve the 24 and double the 4 to get 12x8.
After half term, we will be looking at solving problems where we need to find a starting point and where we will need to work backwards. We will also be using rounding and our knowledge of place value to add and subtract.
RE
This week we have been focusing on RE in the afternoon sessions. We have been learning about Christianity, with a particular focus on the Bible. We have been learning that the Bible is made up of different books and that these books may be letters, stories, proverbs etc.
Thematic
After half term, we will start our new topic which is called ‘Across the Pond.’
Spelling
accommodate, accompany, according, persuade, opportunity, marvellous, rhythm, rhyme, queue, dictionary
Challenge words:
apocalypse, celestial, perihelion, aphelion, extraterrestrial
Love to Learn
We would like the children to relax and enjoy their half term! Please do still read and use TTRS still.
