One Childhood, One Chance

6.11.26 Weekly News!

It has been another busy and exciting week of learning, with lots of new skills, interesting discoveries and plenty of opportunities to develop our knowledge. Here is a little look at what we have been learning this week and what we have planned for next week!

Maths

We started the week by exploring factors. We used our multiplication skills to help us identify factors of different numbers, putting our times-table knowledge to good use!

Later in the week, we moved on to scaling. We used multiplication to scale numbers up and division to scale them down, helping us to understand how numbers can change in size.

Next week, we will be exploring and solving a range of mathematical problems before moving on to addition and subtraction word problems. We will be putting our problem-solving skills to the test!

English

This week, we began our new class book, The Ice Palace. We have been busy rewriting two different scenes from the story, focusing on using expanded noun phrases, powerful verbs and adverbs to make our writing more exciting and descriptive.

Today, we wrote about the tense moment when Ivan was searching through the forest for his brother and found himself being chased by wolves! We worked hard to create atmosphere and help the reader imagine what was happening.

Next week, we will continue reading The Ice Palace and develop our writing further by exploring how to use dialogue and figurative language to bring our stories to life.

Thematic

We have kicked off our new thematic topic, Walk Like an Egyptian, and begun travelling back in time to discover the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt!

We started by exploring when the Ancient Egyptian era took place. We looked at different historical time periods and used a timeline to identify where Ancient Egypt fits into history.

We also discovered just how important the River Nile was to everyday life in Ancient Egypt. We discussed why the river was so crucial to the civilisation and how it helped people to survive and thrive.

Next week, we will take a closer look at the River Nile and explore some of the fascinating Egyptian gods and goddesses.

LOVE TO LEARN.

Can you do some research about Ancient Egypt? What can you find out that you don't know. Note down your findings in your book in anyway you want. You can create a list or a poster. It is up to you!
