One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News 13.03.20

This week, Year 6 have returned to the exciting book Kensuke's Kingdom.  All week, they have written skilfully as news journalists to report on the news of the family setting off to sea on their big adventure around the world.  They employed journalistic features within their newspaper, including ambitious vocabulary and punctuation to make their work stand out.  As they don't know what will happen to Michael and his family, they can't wait to read the next part!

In maths, the children began the week of reading a scale by finding the difference between two given numbers and then dividing that number by the number of intervals (jumps) between those numbers.  For the rest of the week, children worked on solving time interval problems by drawing number lines.  We discussed that number lines are better than the column method for time as time does not refer to metric numbers (10, 100 and 1000) but instead 60s and 24s.

We have talked about the importance of good hygiene - especially with everything in the news recently - and children have been great at washing their hands at regular intervals.

Thank you to all those who were able to donate to our dance-a-thon for Sports Relief!  The entire school looked great in their bright, sporty clothing and we raised about £270 to a good cause.

For love to learn this week, please log on to www.mymaths.co.uk as there is a task there.
