One Childhood, One Chance

Home Learning: Thursday 16th April

A big, huge welcome back!

Good morning everyone! We hope you have had a fantastic Easter break, you are all safe and well and you are feeling ready to get back into your home learning! We really have missed writing the blogs and receiving all of your wonderful e-mails and messages, showing us the pictures of the amazing work you have been doing! So let's get going....

English

So for today our focus sound is everyone's favourite sound..... oo - poo at the zoo! Find oo on your sound card and make your adult say oo - poo at the zoo lots of times! Then point to around 10 other sounds on your sound card to recap them together. Write the following words down for your child to read (zoo, moon, spoon, food). Remind them to spot the special friends, say the sounds and then read the word. Then write these words down for your child to read, but this time saying the sounds in their head, before reading the word aloud (play, book, made, boat). Finally, lets try some alien words. Write down the words pook, loof, skoom, floop. Ask your child to spot the special friends and read the word aloud.

Next lets have a go at some spellings. Say the following words to your child (zoo, moon, spoon, food). Ask them to 'pinch' the sounds on their fingers. They then write the word down. Together you can then tick or fix the words, correcting any mistakes.

For a bit more fun, you could now play the game 'Picnic on Pluto' with your child by clicking on the link below.

Once you have completed your phonics, you could ask your child to read the following book to you (please feel free to choose other books from the site, if this one is too easy or too challenging for your child).

For your writing task today, we would like you to write all about your time off over Easter. You could draw some pictures and write about some of the fun activities you have done!

Maths

This week in Maths we are learning about telling the time. Today, we will recap telling the time to the hour (o'clock), something we did back in January. Tomorrow, we will learn how to tell the time to half past the hour.

Firstly, after a holiday we like to get our brain warmed up and back into the number mindset. Grab a bit of paper and ask your child the to write down the following numbers (they can have a 100 square in front of them to help).

9, 12, 27, 38, 49, 50, 67, 72, 80, 86, 99, 100.

Can they write the number that is.... One more then 39, on less than 17, one more than 67, one less than 31.

If they found that easy you could extend them by asking them to write 10 more or 10 less than given numbers.

Next talk your child through the time teaching slides attached. Remind them which hand is the hour hand and which is the minute hand. After that complete the sheet attached, where the children have to look at the clock and write down the time.

If you wish to, you could make a daily timetable with your child and draw clocks to show key times you do things during the day e.g. wake up, have breakfast etc.

Topic

Each term we have a values focus. In term 5, we always focus on the Topic 'Good to be me'. To start off this term we would like the children to draw  themselves in the centre of a page. We'd then like them to draw the things around them that they love, that are important to them and that make them who they are.

If it was me I would have myself in the middle. Around me I would have my family, my dog Maggie, my friends, Chelsea football team, travel and food.

Send in your 'Good to be me' work so we can see what makes you....you!

We hope you have a great first day back to your home learning! We miss you all so very very much and we are keeping our fingers firmly crossed that we will be seeing you in the not too distant future!
