One Childhood, One Chance

Fire Visit Is Hot Stuff for Chilton Children

A behind the scenes visit to Ramsgate fire station flamed the imaginations of children from Chilton Primary.

Year 2 pupils were thrilled to get the chance to see what a modern fire station looks like and the equipment the firefighters use.

They got to take a look inside a fire engine, see a firefighter travels from an upper floor to the ground floor down a pole and even see how the firefighters extinguish a real fire.

The visit was an excellent start to the group’s topic during which they will discuss the great fire of London, what started the huge blaze, how far and fast it spread, and what was left in its aftermath.

Deputy Head of School Hannah Cheshire added: “As part of this learning the children will also explore how fire fighters worked in the past, what fire engines used to be like and how fire fighters would tackle a blaze.

“Having this first-hand experience of modern-day fire stations will allow the children to make direct comparisons between the past and present.

“Experiencing life inside the fire station, chatting with the crews, finding out how the equipment works, and seeing the fire appliances up close greatly enhances the learning they are doing in class.

“We would like to thank the staff at Ramsgate fire station for a truly inspirational visit.”

Chilton Primary is part of the Viking Academy Trust with partner schools Upton Juniors in Broadstairs and Ramsgate Arts Primary.
