There is a new twist on the popular Come Dine With Us invitations to families of children at Chilton Primary in Ramsgate.
To encourage pupils to enjoy the social stimulation of chatting over a meal, the school has added slides in the dining hall suggesting some interesting and exciting discussion topics.
Deputy Head of School Hannah Cheshire explained: “We have been working hard on developing inter-personal skills and believe that chatting with family during mealtimes is an important part of this – we are teaching the children to take on different roles within discussions.”
Parents from Reception from Year 6 are invited into school to share dinner during this term, beginning with Year 1 and Year 6.
Their menu included fish and chips, jacket potato or tomato pasta. Families could then visit the delicious salad bar, where they could help themselves to a selection of tasty treats. There was also a selection of yummy puddings to choose from.
The food is prepared and freshly cooked on site by Chilton’s kitchen team. The cooks ensure there are options for diners who are vegan or vegetarian, have conditions such as coeliac disease that is a sensitivity to gluten, or who follow a dairy free diet. Chilton is also a nut-free school.
Mrs Cheshire added: “The children enjoy bringing various members of their family into school for a lovely friendly social occasion that encourages families to get together and chat over their meal and sample yet another part of school life.
“At Chilton we strongly believe in the value of community and togetherness. We love to involve our families in all aspects of our school life wherever possible. They are always so supportive and it was lovely to see so many take part in the dining experience.”
Chilton Primary is part of the Viking Academy Trust with Upton Junior School, Broadstairs, and Ramsgate Arts Primary.
