One Childhood, One Chance

Chilton’s Great Run at Cross-Country Meeting

Young runners at Chilton Primary are celebrating one of the school’s best ever showings in a cross-country tournament.

The group delivered an impressive performance across all age groups showing determination and enthusiasm at the event that attracted strong competitors from around the area.

The school’s Reception and Key Stage 1 pupils all ran together over a 400m distance, while runners from Year 3 to Year 6 ran 1km.

Chilton entered 60 children and are delighted with a record number of top ten finishers – one runner came first in the Year 3 boys’ event, with a runner up spot in the Year 4 category and a third place in the Year 3 race.

Deputy Head of School Hannah Cheshire said: “Knowing the importance of physical health on the children's mental health, we really do value events such as these, which encourage children to get out into the fresh air.

“For some of our children, this was their first time in taking place in an event like this, and it was so encouraging to witness their smiling faces.

“Once again Chilton demonstrated sportsmanship and companionship, and we were particularly proud when our runners finished their race and ran straight off to go and cheer on their team mates.”

The cross-country event was held on the playing fields at Upton Junior School, Broadstairs.

Chilton Primary School is part of the Viking Academy Trust with Upton Junior School in Broadstairs and Ramsgate Arts Primary School.
