One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 11.7.25

What a delightful week we've had in Year 2! As we glide through the summer months, the sun has showered us with warmth, infusing our outdoor learning sessions with boundless energy and cheerful smiles. It's been a week brimming with creativity, sports and expressive activities.

A HUGE well done to all the children for taking part in a very hot sports day so wonderfully!

English

This week in English, we've been diving into the captivating world of persuasive writing. The children have taken on the challenge of crafting their own pieces to convince various audiences to buy worm burgers! They've skillfully learned techniques such as using emotive language, rhetorical questions, and clear arguments. It’s heartening to witness their progress as they articulate their thoughts and engage with each other's ideas.

Reading

Reading at 3 - Every Friday at 3 our doors will be open for you to come in and read with your child, please note, this will be for the full 15 minutes and children should not leave any earlier. Their books will be set up and ready for you to come in and enjoy listening to their wonderful reading. Reading folders – Some children will continue to bring home two books, one being a RWI home book. Children are expected to try and read this three times during the week to ensure they are building on their reading fluency. The RWI home books will be changed by an adult. The other book (with the coloured sticker) should be changed independently by the child themselves - first thing in the morning is a great time to do this! Many children have now been moved onto the accelerated reader programme. (Please check their reading records for their ZPD scores. We will continue to assess and move more children onto this when they are ready. Children can change these books after they have completed the quiz online. The AR login can be found here… https://global-zone61.renaissance-go.com/welcomeportal/1892319 For a guide on how to use Accelerated Reader please click here… https://www.chiltonprimary.co.uk/accelerated-reader Please ensure that the reading folders are placed in the reading trays/baskets, so we can read with your children and ensure books get changed. Thank you for your support with this! Please listen to your child read as much as possible at home and record this in their reading records. Every week, one child from each class will receive a reading certificate in our Chilton Heroes assembly.

Maths

Within our maths lessons this week, we've been exploring the fascinating world of word problems related to capacity and volume. We have been deeply engaged in this, estimating and comparing different volumes. We've incorporated a range of containers and materials to aid our understanding while enjoying a few splashes of water along the way!

RE

This week, we’ve had a brilliant time delving into the fascinating world of Sikhism! We started by uncovering how Sikhism began, tracing its roots back to the teachings of Guru Nanak in the 15th century. It’s remarkable how this religion emphasises community, tolerance, and spirituality. We also learned why meditation is vital for Sikhs; it helps centre the mind and promotes inner peace. Perhaps most importantly, we discovered the Sikh belief in sharing—whether it’s food, resources, or kindness. This ethos of generosity truly underscores the importance of community in Sikh culture. What a week of insights!

Love to Learn

Make a poster for your new teacher! This could include all your favourite things. You could even share your likes and dislikes and tell them some facts you would love for them to know about you.

Next week the children will be having their 3 day transition in Year 3 (Mon-Wed)! Children can bring in their own fruit or healthy snack for breaktimes.
