Year 3 have enjoyed another wonderful week of learning in Term 5! Here's what we've been up to:
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been rounding to find an estimate with our answers to additions. We used number lines and learned a rhyme to help us round. We then checked our answers using the inverse. Next week, we will be continuing to estimate and use the inverse but for subtraction calculations.
English
This week, we started our Term 5 text, Charlotte's Web. We completed diary entries, writing as a range of characters from the book including Fern, Wilbur and Templeton. Next week, we will be focusing on letter writing.
Thematic
This week, we continued working on our Term 5 thematic unit 'Mayans: The rise and fall'. We created a timeline charting the time of the Mayan period and compared it to the lengths of other notable historical periods we have studied. Next week, we will be learning about Mayan Gods and Mayan mathematics!
For the children's love to learn this week, please could the children write their own diary entry. This could be about any day of their choosing but could they write in the first person, include emotive language and fronted adverbials and structure their writing into paragraphs. Thank you.
Term 5 Dates for your Diary
5th May – Bank Holiday
6th May – Thrive Coffee Afternoon at 3.30pm
8th May – Year 3 class assembly 2.50-3.05
23rd May – Be here, Be you, Belong celebration. Children can come to school wearing anything they feel represents them as part of our ‘Dress to Express’ day. We will have a parade at 2pm on the field to celebrate this, to which our families are all invited.
Have a wonderful three day weekend!
