One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 9.2.25

What a wonderful week Year 3 have had. Thank you to all the parents who attended our assembly. I'm sure you'd all agree that the children did amazingly!

Maths
In Maths this week, we have continued our work using rounding to estimate as well as using the inverse to check our answers. We have looked at this in a subtraction context. We also looked at different scaling problems. Next week, we will be looking at multiplication and division.

English
This week, we continued reading our Term 5 text 'Charlotte's Web' and heard how Charlotte made a web with a message to try and save Wilbur's life. In our writing, we wrote diary entries and letters, focusing on sentence construction; 1st, 2nd and 3rd person and persuasive language. Next week, we will be continuing to read the story and writing character descriptions.

Thematic
This week, we have been learning all about Mayan Gods. We researched a range and created a thought shower with the information we found. We then moved on to learn about the number system that the Maya used and compared this with how the Romans used numerals. Next week, we will be looking at the fall of the Mayans.

For the children's love to learn this week, please could the children write a persuasive piece to their class teachers. They can persuade the teachers to do anything they like but should include simple, compound and complex sentences, modal verbs and persuasive language.

Term 5 Dates for your Diary

23rd May – Be here, Be you, Belong celebration. Children can come to school wearing anything they feel represents them as part of our ‘Dress to Express’ day. We will have a parade at 2pm on the field to celebrate this, to which our families are all invited.

Have a wonderful weekend!
