One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News 23.5.25

Year 4 have had a brilliant end to term 5 and have worked so hard right up until the last day! Here is what we have been up to…

Maths

In maths this week we have been learning about factors, multiples, square numbers and prime numbers. The children have also learnt how to multiply a 2 digit number by a 2 digit number using the expanded grid method. See photo below.

After half term, we will be learning about division. We will learn to use known facts to help us with larger numbers, learn to use the inverse and also learn to use friendly numbers to divide.

English

In English this week, we have finished reading ‘Tales of Wisdom and Wonder’. The children summarised what had happened in each story that we had read in a few sentences for each story, and did incredibly well at this! We finished learning about characters and settings by learning about how and when to use paragraphs, how to write complex sentences and how to create a distinct mood or atmosphere by choosing appropriate vocabulary.

After half term, we will be reading ‘I was a Rat!’ by the talented children’s author Phillip Pullman. Our first writing unit will be narratives with dialogue and the children will be learning to write speech in the first week back.

RE

In RE this week we have been learning about Buddhism and the Buddhist festivals of Vesak and the Ploughing festival. We have found out about the life of Prince Siddhartha and his quest for enlightenment. We discovered that Buddhists believe in karma and in reincarnation. The children have retold a Buddhist story and recorded the 4 Noble Truths.

Next term, the first week back will be PSHE week and we will be learning about healthy relationships and kindness.

Messages

  • PE in term 6 will still be on a Thursday.

  • In Art next term, we will be returning to collage and working as a class to create a large piece to address the issues of pollution and protecting the environment. To best represent this, we would like to create the collage out of old rubbish. If possible, could you please start to collect up old wrappers and packets that you would otherwise have thrown in the trash? Please only collect up things that are plastic or cardboard (no metal) and which are not covered in sauce/food. Crisp wrappers, frozen pizza boxes, the netting from fruit bags, old magazines are all great examples.

Dates to remember

Monday 2nd June - Term 6 begins

Wednesday 4th June – Class photos

Thursday 5th June – Year 4 are at the Viking Games at Upton – Children to wear PE kits to school

Many thanks

We hope you have a lovely half term,

Mrs Cousins and Mr Oxley
