One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News 9.5.25

In English this week, we have planned and started to write our own narrative. We have thought about how we can show emotion in our writing and used verbs and adverbs to show action.

Next week, we will be finishing our narrative, focusing on weaving dialogue and description. Towards the end of the week, we will be looking at the structure of non-chronological reports, then researching aspects of the Victorian era so we can begin to write our own.

Maths

During our maths lessons this week, we have been scaling up and down, we then used this skill to help us do some baking. We had had to scale up a recipe to work out the amount of each ingredient we would need. If you wanted to have a go at home here is the link to the recipe https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/cooking-kids-chocolate-cornflake-cakes-0 This week, we have also learnt how to read Roman Numerals up to 1000. Next week, we will be learning all about linear number sequences.

Thematic

This week's Thematic learning took us on a trip to the beach!

We spent the morning looking at the different forms of sea defenses and how erosion has affected our local coastline. Our trip also helped us identify physical and human features in our area. Next week, we will be learning about how the requirement for energy is impacting our local environment.

Home Learning

Now that you have learnt about a variety of sea defenses could you create a piece of work that shows one of the sea defenses we have learnt about this week (gabions, groynes, sea wall or rock armour). You might want to create a model, a labelled diagram, a painting or even a fact file. We look forwards to seeing them next week!

Term 5 Dates for your Diary

19th May – Year 5 CAT tests this week

23rd May – Be you, Be here, Belong celebration. Children can come to school wearing anything they feel represents them as part of our ‘Dress to Express’ day. We will have a parade at 2pm on the field to celebrate this, to which our families are all invited.
