21/6/25 Weekly News!
What a wonderful week of learning! Year 5 have once again impressed us with their sheer determination towards all aspects of school life.
English
This week, we began exploring the narrative poem The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. As part of our comprehension and writing focus, we have started writing a balanced argument around the question: “Is stealing always wrong?” This has sparked thoughtful discussion and encouraged pupils to consider different viewpoints and moral dilemmas.
Next week, we will move on to planning and writing a persuasive letter, where pupils will express their personal opinions on whether the Highwayman is guilty or not. This task will allow them to apply persuasive writing techniques while developing their own reasoned arguments based on the events in the poem
Maths
This week, we have been learning all about percentages. We’ve been working hard to convert between decimals, fractions, and percentages—and we were brilliant at it! It’s been great to see everyone building their confidence with these important maths skills.
Next week, we’ll be moving on to interpreting tables and graphs. We’ll also have the chance to become data collectors ourselves by gathering information, organising it in a table, and presenting it clearly in a graph.
Thematic
This week, we learned about gravity and how it affects objects. We also completed some exciting investigations into water resistance, exploring how it slows objects down in water.
Next week, we will be learning about the force of friction and how it affects movement. We’ll explore both the useful and not-so-useful effects of friction in everyday life. In addition, we will investigate how air resistance impacts objects as they fall through the air.
Love to Learn
