Weekly News! 27.7.25

What another wonderful week of learning from Year 5!
English
This week, we have continued our learning on ‘The Highwayman’. Throughout our English lessons this week, we have focused on persuasive writing using persuasive sentence openers, persuasive language and continuing to use conjunctions and modal verbs. We are going to be writing a persuasive letter to the judge to persuade our audience to show our opinions on if the soldiers are guilty or not of murdering the highwayman.
Next week, we will be finishing our persuasive letter to the judge and starting a new poem called Lady of Shallot where we will be focusing on setting descriptions.
Maths
This week, we have been learning all about tables and graphs. We began by reading and interpreting bar chats and then creating our own bar charts by gathering the information ourselves. Towards the end of the week, we then moved onto line graphs and then reading and interpreting timetables.
Next week, we will be moving on to using the four operations with money. Looking at adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplying with problem-solving questions.
Thematic
This week, we have been learning about the force of friction and how it affects movement. We have explored both the useful and not-so-useful effects of friction in everyday life. We have completed this by experimenting how different shapes can fall to the ground with air resistance and attaching an egg to a parachute that we have made from different shapes to test which material is best.
Next week, we will be focusing on DT and we will be looking at levers and pulleys.
