What a scorcher the past few weeks have been! Whilst trying to keep cool, learning has continued in Year 5 to ensure we enter Year 6 fully prepared. We have also started our transition activities. Please watch the video in our blog to meet your new Year 6 teachers! These have already been shared in class but you may want to watch them again.

English
This week, we started reading a book called Lady of Shalott. It is another classical poem, like the Highway Man. We have drawn beautiful images using a range of pencils and also written a setting description.
Next week, we will read more of the poem. We will be introduced to the main character and create artwork to inspire a character description.
Maths
This week, we have been learning how to solve word problems using the 4 operations. We revised our method for adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplying and then applied these to multistep word problems.
Next week, we’ll be moving on to solving problems with money. We will also be spending a whole morning looking at how we use money in real life. This will be called ‘Money Sense Day’.
Thematic
This week, we learned about how levers work as a simple mechanism. We also completed some artwork based on a song called Ugly by The Sugarbabes.
Next week, we will be learning how pulleys work and also completing our computing for the term. We will learn how to create vector drawings.
Love to Learn
For this week’s task, we would like you to find out where pulleys are used in real life. Find out how they work and why we use them. You could also find out the history of pulleys too! Present this in any way you like.
