English
We have read more of our story, Kensuke's Kingdom and understood more of the characters. We role-played as Kensuke and Michael, considering how Kensuke felt when Michael got stung by a jellyfish. From this, we wrote in role as Kensuke, characterising his feelings and using emotive language.
We have since learned more about how this old man has ended up on a deserted island. After learning that he enjoys painting - and makes his own paintbrushes from the environment around him - we decided to go out onto the KS2 playground and field to fashion our own paintbrushes.
Maths
In Maths, we have been revising the Year 6 curriculum, focusing on fractions, percentages and decimals, multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 and rounding. We have looked at how to show our working out clearly as well as find ways to understand what the question is asking of us. We then looked at (fictional) wrong answers, which the children then had to explain why they were incorrect.
Thematic
In history, we learned about the end of World War II and discussed whether the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was justified or not. We had a passionate debate: half of us thought it was right to drop the bomb and half disagreed vehemently.
Love to Learn
For Love to Learn this week, we would like you create your own artwork based on Japanese-style cherry blossom trees. You can paint, draw, sculpt or collage... it's up to you!
