One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 27/6/25

We have reached the end of another hot week. With the hot temperatures we ask that children come into school everyday with a water bottle, sunhat and suncream which they can reapply at lunchtime. Thank you for your continued support.

RWI

We continue to encourages children to practise speedy reading. This is crucial in helping them build fluency and confidence in their reading abilities. At home, please continue to encourage your child to fred talk unfamiliar words in their head and to rapidly read familiar words. As their reading speed increases, we will begin to ask questions based on the texts they are reading. This will help us to develop their comprehension skills, which are essential for their overall literacy development.

In addition to reading, we are also placing a strong emphasis on letter formation. It is important that your child learns to start and finish each letter in the correct places. This skill not only aids their writing ability but also contributes to their overall presentation of work.

Maths

This week, we have been focusing on the composition of numbers 1-10. It’s important for our children to understand how different parts come together to form a whole. For instance, recognising that 2 and 3 make 5, just as 1 and 4 do, is a crucial skill that lays the foundation for their mathematical understanding. We encourage children to have a speedy recall of these facts to support their future maths understanding.

To make this learning engaging, we have been using a variety of practical activities. The children have enjoyed working with Numicon and cubes, which have provided a tactile way to explore these number relationships. These hands-on experiences not only enhance their understanding but also keep their enthusiasm for learning alive!

As we continue to build on this knowledge, I encourage you to practise recalling these number facts with your child at home. You might play simple games, use everyday objects, or even create fun challenges. The more they engage with numbers, the more confident they will become.

Next week we will be sequencing events.

Thematic

Over the past week, we have been exploring what different dinosaurs ate and how we can classify them into groups based on their diets. The children are showing great enthusiasm and curiosity as they learn about herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores. This has opened up wonderful discussions about the environments and habitats in which these magnificent creatures lived. They have been eager to understand how dinosaurs roamed in herds and how some were skilled hunters.

To further enhance their understanding, we took all of our knowledge and creativity to design our very own dinosaurs! The children thought carefully about the habitats their unique dinosaurs would thrive in, what they might look like, and what they would eat. It has been delightful to see their imaginations come to life, and they have given their creations some truly fun names!

Next week we will continue to learn about dinosaurs including how to look after one.

-All clothing should have your child's name.

- Reading record books are changed every Tuesday and Friday, please sign the record and put them in the basket to be changed.

Please complete the WOW moment sheets regularly so that we can add these to the children’s learning journey books.
