Weekly News! 3.10.25
What a great week we have had this week, stepping into our new topic ‘Superheroes’ which has really captured the children’s imaginations. We cannot wait to see their learning over the next few weeks with this topic!
RWI
This week, we have continued to learn more Set 1 sounds. We have learned ‘u’, ‘b’, ‘f’, ‘e’ and ‘l’. Each of these sounds have a patter to help children how to write these sounds. These can be found in your child’s pink sounds book. We kindly ask that you spend a little bit of time each day going through the sounds book with your child to help them to say the sound, draw pictures of words starting with that sound or practising writing the sound using the patter (e.g. round the apple and down the leaf for ‘a’).
During our RWI sessions we have also been learning to orally blend. This is where we say the sounds in the word (e.g. d-o-g) and the children put the sounds together to say the whole word (dog). Any help with this at home will be great! For example, you could ask your child to get their ‘c-oa-t’ or go and brush their ‘t-ee-th’.
We have also been learning to build and read words using magnetic tiles. We listen to the word carefully and then make that word with the sounds. We then use our finger to say each sound and swipe to read the word. We are getting so good at reading words!
Maths
This week in maths we have been learning to count up to 10 actions e.g. claps, stomps of the feet, bunny hops. We learned to say the numbers in order and that the last number we said was the amount. We did this throughout the week in lots of fun and exciting ways. You could reinforce this at home e.g. when walking up stairs.
Next week we will be focusing on the numbers 6-10. We will look at a number a day and look at the different ways it can be represented (e.g. on our fingers, the numeral, the numicon piece which matches that number). We will also relate each number to the numberblocks. There are short videos for each number up to 10 (you can find these by doing an internet search if you want to watch them at home with your child(ren).
Thematic
As mentioned above, this week we have started our new topic: Superheroes! We started the week by reading Supertato and predicting what we thought would happen in the story just by looking at the picture on the front cover. After reading the story, we then discussed the foods in the story and decided whether they are healthy or unhealthy. Throughout the week, we have been retelling the story using different props and we even made our very own Supertatos at the end of the week!
Autumn bags/Autumn Day
Many thanks for taking the time to fill the white autumn bags and returning them to school. If you have not completed this yet, please return on Monday. Next Tuesday, we will be having an autumn day where we will be learning about autumn and using the wonderful things you have collected!
