One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 24/04/26

Welcome back to term 5, we hope you have had a well-rested Easter break. Thank you to you all for your efforts with the growing love to learn task. We look forward to continuing to grow them in school.

Please see the following for the exciting lesson reception will have next week. If your child would like to take part, please help them to prepare something for next Friday. They will then share this in front of their class.

RWI

We are currently focusing on recapping Set 1 and Set 2 sounds. This is a crucial stage in your child’s phonics journey, as it provides them with the foundation needed for successful reading and writing. We encourage all children to engage actively during our sessions, as exploring these sounds in various contexts helps to reinforce their understanding.

To further support your child’s learning at home, we suggest setting aside some time each day to practice reading words with these sounds. Encouraging your child to identify sounds within words will not only boost their confidence but also enhance their reading skills.

Maths

In our maths lessons we have focused on sharing and exploring odd and even numbers. We have been having a fantastic time learning about how numbers can be divided fairly among groups.

During our sessions, we discovered an important concept: sharing odd numbers fairly between two people isn’t possible! This led to some engaging discussions and activities as we practised sharing numbers. The children enjoyed experimenting with physical objects, such as blocks and counters, to see how the numbers could be divided. It was wonderful to watch them grasp the idea that even numbers can be shared equally, while odd numbers can leave one person with an extra piece.

In order to reinforce these concepts, I encourage you to engage your child in discussions about odd and even numbers during daily activities. For example, you could look at the number of apples in a bowl or the number of toys they have, and ask your child whether those numbers are odd or even. This informal practice at home can greatly enhance their understanding and retention of these foundational maths skills.

Next week we will be learning about double numbers.

Thematic

This week, we began our learning about Growth. We kicked off with a fun activity where the children played a game of “Guess Who?” by sharing their baby photos. This exercise allowed them to connect with one another and start understanding the changes we experience throughout the human lifecycle.

Throughout the week, we explored the different stages of the human lifecycle in more detail. The children learned how we become more independent as we grow, discussing various milestones and the significance of each stage.

Next week we will be exploring the life cycles of frogs.
