Weekly News – 29.09.25

We are incredibly proud of the learning that has taken place in Year 3 this week. We have learnt more about the Stone Age, and we have also worked really hard in all of our subjects.
Maths
In Maths, we have continued to develop our knowledge and understanding of subtraction. We all feel confident with column subtraction and using it to help us solve different problems. Next week, we will be learning about factors, as well as understanding how place value changes when multiplying by 10.
English
In English, we have continued to develop our knowledge of playscripts. We have written our own and included the appropriate punctuation and a variety of sentence openers. Next week, we will begin a new book, Lila and the Secret of Rain. We will be writing a diary entry, thinking about how we can show emotion.
Thematic
In Thematic this week, we have learnt about culture and how ceramics were a huge part of life during the Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age. We have also learnt about the change in technology throughout the prehistoric eras. Next week, we will begin our learning by taking a trip down to Pegwell to have a go at flint knapping and completing some challenges linked to the different stones and rocks that we find. We will then work on our Oracy task for the term, discussing our trip with other children in Year 3, before finishing the week with an end-of-term Thematic quiz.
Home Learning
As we are celebrating Harvest, you can choose a task to complete:
-
Task A – Create an image out of a variety of food. You could draw this or send us a picture of the image you create.
-
Task B – If you were a farmer, draw your farm and choose the crops that you would grow.
Some spellings to practice – kind, mind, behind, child and children
Term 1 Dates for the Diary
6th October – Year 3 trip to Pegwell - On Monday, we will be going on a trip. The children will be walking to Pegwell, we will be leaving school at 9am and returning at around 11am (back in time for lunch). Children should wear their school uniform, they can wear comfortable footwear (trainers or wellingtons, depending on the weather) they will also need to bring a waterproof coat
7th October –2.45pm Year 3 Harvest assembly
17th October – Final day of term
TTRS
Ideally, children should aim to play for 5-10 minutes each day, the expectation is that by the end of Year 3 children will know the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times tables. TTRS is designed to be a fun way of learning times tables. TTRS is broken down into 8 game types.
Gig – this creates a heatmap to show times tables knowledge up to 12x12
Garage – this is a teacher set times tables game. Please complete this at home.
Jamming – a game to develop times tables confidence
Studio - games the are aimed at motivating (how many can you do in a set time etc) after 10 games this will give a rock status.
Festival and Arena – you can compete against other children from other schools
Rock Slam – you can choose to challenge anyone from within the school (adults and children).
Have a wonderful weekend!
