Weekly News – 27.10.25

It has been wonderful being able to meet with you all this week. Year 3 have come back for Term 2 ready to learn and continue to take on the challenges of this busy term.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been learning about unit and non-unit fractions of shapes and amounts.
Unit fractions – fractions that have 1 as the numerator, representing 1 part of the whole.
Non-unit fractions – fractions that have any whole number as the numerator apart from 1.
Next week, we will be learning to recognise regular and irregular 2D shapes. We will identify lines of symmetry and start to measure the perimeter of shapes.
English
This week, we started reading The Green Ship by Quentin Blake. We began by creating our own Green Ships made out of leaves and twigs. We then wrote our own descriptions of the Green Ship using adjectives and expanded noun phrases (adjective, adjective noun). Next week, we will begin our learning by creating our own artwork of the ship in a storm. We will then write a setting description focusing on using the five senses.
Thematic
This week in Thematic, we started by investigating push and pull forces. We also planned and carried out an investigation to find out how different types of surfaces affect the distance an object will travel.Next week, we will begin to explore magnets and discover which materials are and are not magnetic.
Home Learning
This week, we would like you to complete the word search we have sent home. The words that are hidden are all linked to our Thematic learning this term.

TTRS
Ideally, children should aim to play for 5-10 minutes each day, the expectation is that by the end of Year 3 children will know the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times tables. TTRS is designed to be a fun way of learning times tables. TTRS is broken down into 8 game types.
Gig – this creates a heatmap to show times tables knowledge up to 12x12
Garage – this is a teacher set times tables game. Please complete this at home.
Jamming – a game to develop times tables confidence
Studio - games the are aimed at motivating (how many can you do in a set time etc) after 10 games this will give a rock status.
Festival and Arena – you can compete against other children from other schools
Rock Slam – you can choose to challenge anyone from within the school (adults and children)
Have a wonderful weekend!
