Weekly News - 10.11.25

This week in Year 3, kindness has been the centre point of our learning; we have thought about ways in which we can show kindness and what to do if people are being unkind.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have explored statistics. We have recapped our knowledge of bar and tally charts and pictograms. We even moved on to collecting, presenting, and interpreting data in bar charts and pictograms. Next week, we will be learning about measure. We will start by measuring in cm and m and then move on to adding and subtracting lengths.
English
This week, we have been writing character descriptions of the characters in our book The Green Ship. We have focused on writing about their appearance and personality. We finished the week by writing a character description of ourselves to Pudsey, explaining how kind we are. Next week, we will be writing narratives, with a focus on writing in the past tense and varying our sentence openers.
Thematic
We have had a great week of learning PSHE, reminding ourselves of the people we can talk to in school and why we might need or want to share a problem. To end the week, we completed some acts of kindness challenges; we even sprinkled some kindness to the different adults around the school. Next week, we will continue our Thematic learning. We will be creating our own sunglasses; we will then test them and improve them.
Home Learning
This week, we have a reading battle:
Team Azure vs. Team Peacock
The class that reads the most books and takes the most quizzes will win a certificate and reward. You can read your normal AR books and quiz on them, but you could also read and quiz on books from MyOn (links below). The login for MyOn is the same as their TTRS and AR login.

TTRS
Ideally, children should aim to play for 5-10 minutes each day, the expectation is that by the end of Year 3 children will know the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times tables. TTRS is designed to be a fun way of learning times tables. TTRS is broken down into 8 game types.
Gig – this creates a heatmap to show times tables knowledge up to 12x12
Garage – this is a teacher set times tables game. Please complete this at home.
Jamming – a game to develop times tables confidence
Studio - games the are aimed at motivating (how many can you do in a set time etc) after 10 games this will give a rock status.
Festival and Arena – you can compete against other children from other schools
Rock Slam – you can choose to challenge anyone from within the school (adults and children)
Have a wonderful weekend!
