Weekly News – 16.01.26

The end of Week 2 already! We have loved starting to learn all about how our bodies work and how we get our energy.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been learning how to use column addition to add two 3-digit numbers without regrouping. Next week, we will be using our skills in column addition to help us add 3-digit numbers with regrouping.
From Monday to Friday, Year 3 have a TTRS battle against Year 4. We will be playing TTRS lots in school, but please try and play as much as you can at home. Good luck Team Year 3!
English
This week in English, we have been writing a character description of the character that the boy in our story meets in the forest. Next week, we will be starting our next Anthony Browne book, The Tunnel. We will be focusing on creating suspense when writing our own narratives.
Thematic
In Thematic this week, we have learnt that animals and humans cannot make their own food, but plants do in their leaves. We have also learnt about the different food types and why our bodies need them. Next week, we will be learning about our skeletons, why we have them, and what the different bones are called.
RSPB Big Garden BirdWatch
This term, the whole school is taking part in the Big Schools' BirdWatch to collect data for the RSPB. We are inviting you to take part at home too. Here's what you need to do:
-
Choose an hour between 23 and 25 January.
-
Only record the birds that land in your garden.
-
Record the highest number of each bird species you see at any one time.
-
Sign up online and submit your results to the RSPB. Here's the link: Big Garden Birdwatch
Miss Isaac, who is Chilton's science leader, would love to see any photos of you doing this and also hear about any particularly interesting birds you saw. Feel free to send her an email: carol.isaac@chiltonprimary.co.uk
Home Learning
For your home learning this week, we would like you to write a character description of a fairytale hcharacter of your choice. Try to include as many contraction words as you can.
Just a reminder: we would like children to be reading three times a week at home (this could be the book that they bring home or on MyOn) and bringing in their reading records daily.
