One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News –27.04.26

We have had a great week in Year 3! We have a wonderful afternoon sharing our talents in our Year 3  Talent show, we had a variety of sports, dancing, guitar and piano playing. Well done and thank you for all of your effort.

Maths

This week in Maths, we have been using our knowledge of rounding to estimate answers to word problems before solving them, then checking that our answers were close to our estimates to make sure they made sense. On Friday, we also learnt how to use inverse operations to check our answers. Next week, we will be learning how to count back to find the difference, estimate answers to calculations, and continue using inverse operations to check our work.

English

This week in English, we have enjoyed starting our new book Charlotte’s Web. We have been writing diary entries as different characters from the story, focusing on using exciting vocabulary and varied sentence structures. Next week, we will be writing a letter from Wilbur to his mother, where we will use first, second and third person, as well as persuasive language.

Thematic

This week in Thematic, we created our own timelines and included periods of history we have previously learnt about, such as the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, the Romans and the Great Fire of London. We have also learnt about the different ways the ancient Mayans farmed the land. Next week, we will be learning about the Mayan number system and some Mayan beliefs.

Home Learning

For home learning this week, we would like you to create a non-chronological report about something you are passionate about. Try to use the skills you learnt last week when writing your spider non-chronological report. We can’t wait to see your work on Friday!
