One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 07.09.2026

The children have settled in fantastically and we can already see the progress you are going to be making this year! Here’s what we have been up to this week!

Maths

During our Maths lessons this week, we have be learning to partition 3 digit numbers in different ways. We have used Base 10 manipulatives to make the numbers, and worked together to explore different ways to partition them.

Next week, we are building on our place value understanding to notice what changes and what doesn’t change when we count in ones, tens and hundreds from any given number.

This is a link for TTRS where the children can practise their times tables. The children’s log ins are stuck on the inside of their reading records. Please note, we have set their TTRS to only practise twos, fives and tens for now as this links to what we are currently practising in school.

English

This week we have explored the story of ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’ by Michelle Robinson! We have started to explore instruction writing, looking at the features and beginning to use them in our own writing. In Guided Reading, we explored the story and summarised it using comic strips!

Next week in English we will continue our learning about instructions. We will be giving, planning and writing our own instructions! In Guided Reading, we will be exploring the poem ‘If I’d been born a caveman’ by Myles McLeod.

This is a link for Accelerated Reader which the children can use to quiz on their books once they have finished reading them! The children’s log ins are stuck on the inside of their reading records.

PSHE

In PSHE this week we have been thinking about our Chilton Motto ‘One Childhood, One Chance’ and learning about our school values; kindness, respect, courage and equality. We made our own fish, using colours that represented our personalities, and these will be displayed proudly in the hall, as in Year 3 ‘we may look different, but we all swim in the same direction!’

Next week we will begin our first thematic unit called ‘Prehistory Rocks!’, in which we will find out all about The Stone Age…

Home Learning

We LOVED seeing your beautiful designs on your home learning books this week!

For home learning this week, we would like you to complete the attached Maths sheet that links to the learning we have completed this week. You can write the answers in your books! (Adults, the answers are there for you!)
