We've had another great week in Year 4. This is what we have been up to..
Maths
In maths this week, we have learnt how to subtract 4-digit numbers using column method. We also spotted errors and had to explain mistakes that had been made in questions. We finished the week by working on two-step word problems involving addition and subtraction.
Next week, we will be moving on to multiplication and how to multiply using the short multiplication method.
English
In English this week we have been learning to write character descriptions. We have started our new book called the Iron Man and described the Iron Man and a boy called Hogarth who was the first to spot the beast. We used expanded noun phrases, verbs and adverbs and similes to describe the characters.
Next week we will continue writing character descriptions but using superlatives and fronted adverbials.
Thematic
In thematic, we have continued with our science learning in our theme 'Make some noise'. First of all, we completed our experiment to find out if the height an object being dropped made a difference to the volume it made when hitting the floor. We found out that the higher you drop something, the louder the volume due the object creating more vibrations. We recorded our results in a table and a bar graph.
Next week, we will be looking at noise pollution and how it affects others, making our own ear defenders and also learning how to communicate without sound.
Spellings
Spellings to learn for a test on Thursday:
Treasure, measure, closure, enclosure, measure, leisure, century, circle and certain
Love to Learn
This week's task is to create your own musical instrument. It can show different volumes, different pitches or create different sounds. It is up to you. We are very much looking forward to seeing what you make!
