Weekly News 6.2.26

This week in Year 4 we have had another busy and engaging week of learning. Children have loved thematic and ditch books week in maths!
English
In English, we continued writing our non-chronological reports about different eras of time, inspired by the book A Pebble in My Pocket. The children worked hard to organise their information clearly and to apply the writing skills we have been developing over the past few weeks. We focused particularly on using commas in a list, and the children also created labelled diagrams and captions to present information effectively. It has been wonderful to see their growing confidence in both writing and presentation.
Maths
This week was our “Ditch the Books” week, so all of our maths learning took place without exercise books. The children took part in practical and outdoor activities to deepen their understanding. We have been learning to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator, solve problems involving fractions, and find equivalent fractions, including tenths and hundredths. The hands-on approach really helped the children to visualise their learning and explain their reasoning.
Thematic
In our thematic learning, we focused on Design and Technology. The children learnt about frame and shell structures, exploring how they are designed and what makes them strong and stable. They then planned, made and evaluated their own shell structures. It was fantastic to see their creativity and problem-solving skills in action, as well as their thoughtful evaluations about what worked well and what they would improve next time.

Love to Learn
For this week’s home learning task we would like you to create your own shell structure using materails you can find from home. Think about including triangulation and bracing in your structure.
