Weekly News! 19.6.26
It has been another busy and exciting week in Year 4! Here is a snapshot of what we have been learning across our subjects.
English
In English, we have begun writing newspaper reports based on the incident at the school where Roger bit his teacher and escaped! To help us write like real journalists, we explored the features of newspaper reports and focused on including the 5 Ws in our introductions: Who, What, Where, When and Why.
We have also been learning how to use reported speech to share what witnesses and others involved might have said about the incident. The children have enjoyed taking on the role of reporters and are beginning to write informative and engaging news articles.
Maths
In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of time. We started by learning how to convert between different units of time, such as hours into minutes, days into weeks and weeks into years.
Once we were confident with these conversions, we moved on to solving a variety of time duration problems. The children have been using their knowledge to work out elapsed time and solve real-life problems involving timetables and lengths of time. We have been impressed with their resilience and reasoning skills when tackling these challenges.
Thematic
In Thematic learning, we have started our exciting new topic, My Home, Your Home. Our first focus country is Spain and we have begun comparing life in Spain with life in England.
The children have explored the topography of Spain, learning about its diverse landscapes, including mountains, coastal areas, plains and islands. We have discussed how geography can influence the way people live and how Spain's physical features compare to those found in England.
We are looking forward to continuing our journey and discovering more about the culture, geography and daily life in Spain over the coming weeks.
Spellings
Spellings to learn this week are contractions so they must have the apostrophe in the correct place.
couldn't, wouldn't, shouldn't, can't, won't, don't, they're, aren't, doesn't, haven't, mustn't, they'll, you've
Red words: suppose, surprise, therefore
