weird    either    foreign    seize    height

  1. We have also set a MyON reading challenge for the Year 6 children.  We would like them to read one or both books set on MyOn that are about Vikings! Click here to access MyOn https://www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html The children’s AR username and Password will let them access MyOn. This home learning can be completed at any point this term.

English

This week, the children read more of the book Skellig focusing on Michael and his dreams.  The children wrote a dream sequence that included mood and atmosphere.  They also demonstrated their understanding of sentence structure by using simple, compound and complex sentences in their writing. The children spent time on Thursday writing and performing nonsense poems linked to food from Michael Rosen as Thursday 13th November was Michael Rosen Day!

Maths

This week, the children started a two-week learning journey covering fractions.  They started the week looking at fractions of shape then moved on to equivalent fractions as well as converting improper fractions to mixed numbers.

PSHE in the afternoon

All this week, the children took part in a variety of PSHE lessons that focused on bullying, kindness, banter and empathy.  The children learnt what to do if they experienced bullying and banter and also discussed empathy and what empathy looks like.  We looked at a number of video scenes and discussed scenarios.  One video that the children found very helpful when understanding empathy was this one from Inside Out - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QT6FdhKriB8

Here is Sophie explaining what empathy is and how to show it.
