One Childhood, One Chance

Week Beginning 17.11.2025

Year 6 Home learning

  1. We would like the children to show their understanding of fractions and what they have learnt this week.  They can pick either: adding or subtracting fractions with different denominators or ordering and comparing fractions with different denominators.  We would like the children to show their learning any way they wish. They could even film themselves explaining how to do it!

English

This week, the children wrote in role as Michael and Mina from their text Skellig.  They focused on using a variety of present tenses (simple, continuous/progressive and prefect).  For our Reading for pleasure this week, the children explored Michael Rosen again and read and performed his poem ‘Chocolate Cake’!  They finished their performances by eating chocolate cake too!

Maths

This week, the children continued their fraction learning journey.  They started the week learning about fractions of amounts, ordering and comparing fractions with different denominators and then they finished the week by adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators.  Our times table of the week was 7 x 7 = 49.  Our times table of the week next week will be 7x8=56.

Thematic this week

This week, the children returned to their history lessons in the afternoon.  They learnt about three important kings: Alfred the Great, King Canute and Edward the Confessor. Year 6 have also learnt about primary and secondary sources and the differences between the two and if the sources they were given were reliable or not.  They finished the week taking part in an oracy task that focused on the legacy that the Vikings left on our country.
