Love to Learn

As part of our PSHE learning of 'Say It Loud, Say It Proud', we would like you to consider what your talents are.  What are your hobbies?  What are your achievements?  Next week, we would like to have a Year 6 Talent Show!  Please plan out and rehearse a short presentation that highlights what you are good at - what makes you 'you'.

English

After drawing the character 'Kensuke' - a Japanese man from our text - from the description in the book, we described him using figurative language and expanded noun phrases.  We also learnt more about the effects of the Blitz during WWII and analysed a poem based on it.  From this, we wrote our own poems using emotive language.  To understand the Japanese culture better, we painted cherryblossom trees and tried to use chopsticks as part of Reading for Pleasure.  Next week, we will focus on writing in role as Kensuke, showing his anger towards Michael.  Afterwards, we will write about Kensuke's flashback onboard a ship.

Maths

In Maths, we have consolidated our learning on triangles and circles, solving problems based on these.  We also classified and solved problems on other 2D shapes before working on 3D shape, including nets.  Next week, we will be continuing our preparation of SATs and challenging ourselves on a range of problems.

Thematic

In PSHE, we considered who we are - what is our true identity?  We learnt that our identity comes from our background, our hobbies and our traits.  We created some artwork that portrayed this.  Next week in PSHE, we will have a Year 6 Talent Show that showcases our talents.

In Thematic, we used our geography skills to consider how countries are interconnected through trade.  We used atlases to learn more about a range of countries and explored how trade links are influenced by natural resources.  We also analysed import and export data of countries to compare them.  Next week, we will learn the difference between a harbour and a port and make connections between the importance of trade links for Ramsgate.
