We also need 2 parent volunteers. Please do get in touch with Miss Isaac if you are available from 8.45-12.15 on Thursday 12th November to help us on the trip: carol.isaac@chiltonprimary.co.uk

English
This week, we have been introduced to our new text, 'Skellig'. From looking at the front cover, we made predictions, aiming to make connections with the story's themes. We then drew and wrote setting descriptions of a dilapidated garage where a creature has been hiding. Next week, we will write a character description of this strange creature and write in role as Michael, the boy who found him.
Spelling
This term, we will be focusing on these 'red words'. They are words that don't follow spelling rules and also are tricky to sound out. Year 6 children are expected to know how to spell these words so please do practise these regularly. They will be tested at the end of the term.
immediate(ly), develop, especially, equip (-ped, -ment), relevant, shoulder, average recognise, criticise, occupy, occur, profession, interfere, interrupt
In addition to that, we will be learning next week about words ending in the suffixes -tion, -sion, -ssion, -cian. Here are the 10 words they will be tested on next Friday:
1. Information
2. Celebration
3. Expansion
4. Confusion
5. Permission
6. Discussion
7. Profession
8. Musician
9. Electrician
10. Mathematician
Maths
We have been challenging ourselves with understanding how to multiply a four-digit number by a one-digit number before moving on to longer multiplication with a two-digit by two-digit number. We used reasoning skills to challenge this understanding and practised the fluency skill. Next week, we will be applying our learning of multiplication to real-life applications such as finding the area of rectangles.
Thematic
Our new topic of 'My Home, My Country' has helped the children to think how Great Britain has formed over hundreds of years. We recapped on what life was like for ordinary Anglo-Saxons before the Vikings invaded in 793 AD. We wrote diary entries as an Anglo-Saxon seeing the Viking longships for the very first time and hid in fear as they robbed monasteries of their silver and gold. We created a factfile including important dates from the Romans through to the Vikings and placed their eras on a timeline. We reflected on our big question, 'Is it ever OK to invade another country?' Next week, we will be making Viking longships using junk modelling. Any boxes (preferably big) will be much appreciated.
Love 2 Learn
For Love to Learn this week, we would like you to practise our learning of prime numbers, factors and multiples. Please complete the attached sheet. Let your teacher know if you would like them to print it for you.
