Chilton Primary School

One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 15th July

We have come to the end of our last full week with the children in Reception, and what a week it has been! The children took part in their first Sports Day at Chilton and they did so well. All of the EYFS team were proud of all of the children. They coped with the warm weather so well and did the activities with smiles on their faces. It can be a daunting thing to have so many faces watching you, but the children did so well. Many thanks to you all for coming along and cheering the children on!

WEATHER WARNING: As I am sure you are aware, the forecast for Monday and Tuesday is for temperatures to hit 30 degrees. To try and make children as comfortable as possible, they are free to wear PE kit or their uniform on those days (whichever they prefer). Please can I ask that uniform rules still be followed so if PE kit is worn, t-shirts need to be white.

We will keep classrooms as cool as possible, use outdoor shaded spaces as much as possible, limit physical activity and encourage children to drink a lot.

Please could you make sure that children have sun-cream on and have a hat and a water bottle.

When temperatures cool again on Wednesday, everyone will need to be back in uniform please.

Transition Days

As you will know from Mrs Law’s newsletter, next week, the children will be spending Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with their new class teacher (Mrs Winchcombe or Miss Bryson). On Monday morning, please drop your child off at their current classroom (reception classrooms). On Monday afternoon, Tuesday morning and afternoon and Wednesday morning and afternoon, you will need to drop off/collect your child from their NEW Year 1 classroom.

On Thursday, children will need to be dropped off and collected from their Reception classroom. School finishes at 2pm on Thursday.

BOOKS!

Please could you make sure that all reading books (book corner books, phonics books and coloured banded books) are returned to school as soon as possible. Many thanks.

Phonics:

This week, the children used their phonic skills to write some speech bubbles for what Harry might say to his dinosaurs, inspired by the book Harry and his Bucket of Dinosaurs!

Maths:

This week, we have been practising writing our teen numbers. We have also been learning to work systematically to find all possibilities.

Topic:

This week we have been reading the story Harry and his Bucket of Dinosaurs. The children did some fabulous speech bubble writing based on this and then we learned a song about the story. The children were fabulous at singing this song! To end our topic, we did an end of topic quiz! The children were great at answering the questions!

Dates for your diary:

  • Monday 18th, Tuesday 19th, Wednesday 20th July – spending the days with their new teacher (see above)

  • Thursday 21st July – last day of term – school closes at 2pm.

Many thanks for all of your support, from all of the EYFS Team!
