One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! w/b 31.1.22

Wow what a 'rocking' week we have had!

Here is what we’ve been learning…

 Read, Write Inc.

This week we have been working so hard. We have continued to focus on our reading and looking for those special friends in words. Please continue to read as much as you can at home. We have loved to seeing that some of you are even reading books from your local library!

Maths

This week in Maths we have been learning about measure! We started the week by comparing mass. We had to see if items around the class were heavier or lighter than each other. We moved our learning on to ordering mass, we had to order items from lightest to heaviest. We then compared capacity! We had to work out which cup had more or less water in and see which ones were full or empty!

Number Day! Wow, is all we can say… What an effort you all made. We had the best day! We took part in some wonderful outdoor maths activities! We especially liked the scavenger hunt. We then read the story ‘Equal Smequel’ where a group of animals explore the idea of “equal” within the context of having to set up a fair game of Tug of War. Through various means they discover that equal numbers, equal weight, equal strength and equal effort can have different impacts of the game. We were inspired, after reading this, to find objects that weigh the same. Take a look…

Topic

This week in Topic we have been continuing to look at our bread… Take a look to see what’s happened.

We have learnt all about where our food comes from, healthy and unhealthy diets and what the Eatwell plate is!

We ended the week by reading the story ‘Daisy eat your peas!’ where mum wants Daisy to eat her peas. She wants her to eat her peas SO MUCH that she's willing to bribe her with a host of treats from special pudding to a new bike, a chocolate factory and an extra late bedtime. But Daisy won't budge! We all wrote a letter to Daisy, persuading her to eat her peas! Our knowledge from this week’s learning really helped with our wonderful persuasive writing!

Next week

In maths, we will be reviewing our addition and subtraction skills, based around capacity and mass.

In RWI we will be continuing to practise our sounds, use punctuation, practise our writing and learn the red words.

Healthy Relationships – We will be learning all about the rules to stay safe online, learning when to say, ‘yes’, ‘no’, ‘I’ll ask’ and ‘I’ll tell’ including knowing that we do not need to keep secrets and understanding how to be kind online. On Friday, for Children’s mental health day, we will be reading the story of Silly Billy and making our very own Worry dolls!

Love 2 Learn

This week we would love for you to create your own alien words! You could make your own cards for practise or write some in your books. Remember to use some of your sounds within them… Take a look at ours, can you spot the special friends?

Love to Learn books need to be returned each Wednesday please J
