One Childhood, One Chance

Year 4 Weekly News 25.3.22

Maths

This week we have been looking at shape and the properties of shapes. On Monday, we began by looking at 3D shapes. We had a very active lesson by using the 3D shapes to identify the name of them and examining the properties that they have. We then moved onto 2D shapes, looking at regular and irregular polygons and finished off with classifying triangles and quadrilaterals.

Next week, we are looking at our number system and the different number systems across the world. Especially concentrating on Roman numerals!

English

This week we have been continuing to learn our persuasive skills. However, we have been really concentrating on our big end piece of writing for our book ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’. The title of our piece of writing is called Refugees – Why should we care? We have planned and elaborated on points to say why it is important to care about refugees from around the world. The children have loved writing about it and have been so enthralled by the book!

Next week, we are going to be finishing off our big piece of writing and writing about ‘What a Wonderful World’.

Topic

This week in Topic, we created our own buzz loop toys! We used our excellent electricity knowledge to try and create our own toy. It was a struggle to make but the children showed fantastic resilience to keep going and not give up. We learnt some extremely valuable transferable skills for the next time we do electricity!

Love To Learn

Draw and design your own electronic toy that you would like to create. However, remember it must have a connecting circuit to work. Let’s see some of your amazing imaginations!

We are very excited to announce that we have been invited to enter the Turner Contemporary's annual art competition.

This year’s theme Belonging is inspired by the work of Ingrid Pollard who will be bringing her major solo show to Turner Contemporary in Summer 2022. Pollard uses film, photography, sculpture and installation to explore ideas of identity.

This will be explored more throughout our PSHE topic next term; Be Here, Be You, Belong.

As well as taking part in art work within school, we are asking you to design something at home! With the theme being ‘belonging’ you can design anything from a painting, sculpture, contemporary dance or speech!

The winner of this competition will have their work exhibited at the Turner contemporary!

By your child entering this competition, you will be giving permission for their piece of art to be possibly displayed at the Tuner contemporary.

Please bring in your designs or send any videos to Mrs Winchcombe (poppy.winchcombe@chiltonprimary.co.uk) by the 28th April. These will then be passed on to the Turner Contemporary.
