Chilton Primary School

One Childhood, One Chance

Let the Music Play

Talented young musicians have served up an inspirational musical treat for families, pupils and staff at Chilton Primary School in Ramsgate.

The summer term showcase highlighted a range of different skills and abilities from performers of all age groups, with a high standard of musicianship under the spotlight.

The show marked the culmination of another year of music making at the school, with Chilton’s music leader Graham Redwood leading the celebration, while the players performed skilfully on a range of instruments.

Performances ranged from Mr Coney's guitar groups who played a variety of tunes including an Ed Sheeran solo piece from Tamyia, Year 6 percussionists who demonstrated their skills on African djembe drums and xylophones, solo and group singing, and a rousing finale of Shakira’s anthemic number Waka Waka by all the children, one of Chilton’s favourite songs.

Deputy Head of School Hannah Cheshire said: “Once again our concert was well supported and the terrific reception the performers received was very well-deserved. It is always such a feel-good evening and we are always blown away by the musical talent and confidence on show.”

The evening was a celebration of all the musical achievements attained by pupils throughout the year, whether in class or in their after school clubs. The school’s balanced curriculum places a lot of emphasis on its arts provision of which the staff is very proud.

Head of School/Director of Education Kate Law said: “Our children are dedicated and passionate about their music and we encourage them to get involved as much as possible. The concert was yet another highlight of our school year.

“The standard and quality of the performances just keeps getting better and better, thanks to our wonderful pupils and to Mr Redwood for his inspiring leadership of music, his skills and dedication.

“It is so pleasing to see all the work, effort and enthusiasm come together in a full show that brought a lot of happiness to both the audience and the performers.”

Chilton Primary School is a member of the Viking Academy Trust together with Upton Junior School, Broadstairs, and Ramsgate Arts Primary School.
