Learning this week:

Year 5 had a fantastic trip to Kent Life. There was a range of Victorian activities ranging from candle making to acting out A Christmas Carol with Charles Dickens.

As we enter the final week of the term our writing has been Christmas orientated. We have read the poem ‘Twas the night before Christmas’ and written our own accounts of family traditions. We will be sharing some examples of this writing in the Christmas Service on Tuesday.

Our maths learning has been to calculate and compare area of rectangles. We have learnt the formula and applied it to calculating the area of compound shapes.

Our Time Tunnel topic has come to an end this week. We finished by looking at different Victorian art and looking at some examples of art by different artists from the era.

Home Learning:

It is safe to say at Chilton Primary School, we love to read! We love to read in class, in the forest school, outside on the playground, in the library and in lots of comfy and cosy places around the school. In order to encourage children to read as much as possible over the Christmas holidays, we are setting a Festive Reading Challenge! We ask children to send in a picture of them reading a book that they love in a festive setting. This might be wearing their favourite Christmas jumper, sat next to their Christmas tree, or maybe even with the big man himself. Please can photos be emailed to Miss Davey on: emily.davey@chiltonprimary.co.uk.

We will pull out two winners on the first Friday after Christmas during Chilton Heroes assembly. The winner will receive a book of their choice from the Scholastic website.

Happy Festive reading!

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!
