W/B 23rd November 2020 Weekly Year 5 Blog
This week has seen Year 5 really blast off into space as we began our new topic - stargazers. While Mr Able continued his two-week vacation, his class (Ultramarine) worked tirelessly, showing a fantastic work ethic, completing many assignments online. A magnificent Year 5 response to difficult times (Well done Mr Able and the whole of Ultramarine!). Tomorrow, we look forward to welcoming them all back into the classroom!
In English this week, we have been using persuasive language to sell Earth as the new, must-see travel destination for alien tourists. Creating our very own travel leaflets, we described all the unmissable opportunities Earth had to offer! From observing the masses gather to collect their bags of slop from the mighty Colonel Sanders to exploring the eight-legged beasts that dwell in the watery depths, our world really is full of possibilities. Next week, we will be writing some poetry all about the universe and our very own solar system!
In Maths this week, we have continued with our fraction work exploring different methods for identifying fractions of a number. Next week, we are diving into geometry, identifying properties of shapes both (2d and 3d) and estimating and comparing angels.
In our afternoons, we have launched into our new space topic by creating our very own alien planet which we continued to describe in detail over the week. We discovered some wonderful new worlds, including Cat Planet, Volcano World and even Planet Gloop! Next week, we will be creating our very own solar system. Kids can get creative choosing between 3d and 2d models and deciding for themselves how to tackle the challenge!
LOVE TO LEARN:
For the children's love to learn,
we would like the children to complete the challenges set on MyMaths. House Points will also be awarded for any children who can come up with innovative ways to remember the order of the planets in our solar system! Extra points for illustrations!
e.g. – My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Us Nachos!
Have a great weekend, The Year 5 team x
